Suggestions for reading samples

Post by vanfull3 » Sat Jul 09, 2016 8:30 pm

My son finished up working with a facilitator 1 week ago. I am wondering if there are any good sources for acquiring reading samples at specific grade levels to do the reading exercises with him at home. He does best if the print is enlarged. I have tried enlarging pages of books on our copier, but they are coming out too dark. I have also downloaded some freebies online, but any specific websites or other means to acquire them would be great. Thank you!

Great question!

Here's a site from an educational publisher with short passages at grade levels 1-6. The earlier levels -- grades 1 and 2 - seem to have larger print.

I think these would be good for the Davis reading exercises. Even if your son is reading at a higher level now, for purposes of Davis reading exercises it would be fine to start at the lower levels -- it gives plenty of opportunity to spot triggers and it will help build confidence as he learns basic techniques to start with something easy.

Here's another site with one-page reading samples keyed to grades 2 through 8+ -- but print size seems to be the same at all levels.
